Product Description
Durvet Turn Out Sweat & Waterproof Formula is the ultimate solution for pastured horses that face constant exposure to weather, sweat, rain, dust, and dirt. This ready-to-use insecticide and repellent features a revolutionary weatherproof formula that binds directly to the hair shaft, creating a protective barrier that stays active for up to 14 days regardless of environmental conditions. Designed specifically for turnout horses, ponies, and foals that can't be brought in from the elements, Turn Out kills and repels seven fly species plus gnats, ticks, lice, and mosquitoes - including those that may transmit West Nile Virus. The unique water-based formula resists sweat, rain, dust, and dirt while providing coat-conditioning benefits that bring out a bright sheen when brushed. Safe for horses, ponies, foals, dogs, and puppies, Turn Out also works as a premise spray for barns, stables, and kennels. With permethrin, pyrethrins, and MGK 264 synergist, this economical spray reduces application frequency from daily to once every two weeks for maximum convenience and protection.
Active Ingredients:
- Permethrin: 0.20%
- Pyrethrins: 0.10%
- N-Octyl Bicycloheptene dicarboximide (MGK 264): 0.50%
- Other Ingredients: 99.20%

Weatherproof Technology:
Binds to Hair Shaft: Turn Out's unique formula creates a chemical bond with keratin proteins in the hair shaft. This binding technology locks insecticide molecules directly onto each hair, creating protection that resists:
- Sweat: Works through heavy exercise and hot weather
- Rain: Light to moderate precipitation won't wash away protection
- Dust: Maintains effectiveness even as horses roll and play
- Dirt: Stays active in muddy pasture conditions
Up to 14 Days Protection: Unlike daily-application fly sprays, Turn Out's weatherproof formula provides continuous protection for up to two full weeks. Perfect for pastured horses that experience constant environmental exposure.

How It Works:
Permethrin (0.20%): A synthetic pyrethroid that provides extended residual control. Permethrin binds to insect nervous systems, causing paralysis and death. Its slow-release from the hair shaft provides continuous 14-day protection.
Pyrethrins (0.10%): Natural botanical insecticides from chrysanthemum flowers deliver rapid knockdown of flying insects. Provide immediate relief upon application.
MGK 264 (0.50%): N-Octyl Bicycloheptene dicarboximide is a powerful synergist that dramatically increases the effectiveness of both permethrin and pyrethrins. MGK 264 blocks insect metabolic enzymes that would normally detoxify insecticides, ensuring maximum kill and extended residual activity.
Application Methods:
Method 1: Wipe-On Application (Recommended for Initial Coat)
Step 1: Prepare Horse Brush animal thoroughly to remove excess dirt, dust, and loose hair. Clean coat allows better product contact with hair shaft for optimal binding.
Step 2: Apply to Cloth Moisten a soft cloth with Turn Out. Do NOT saturate to the point of dripping - a light, even coating provides maximum effectiveness.
Step 3: Rub Against Hair Growth Apply by rubbing against the hair growth direction. This ensures product reaches the base of hair shafts where binding occurs. Focus on:
- Legs: Where stable flies commonly attack
- Shoulders: Horse fly landing zones
- Flanks: High-traffic fly areas
- Neck: Both sides and crest
- Facial Areas: Around eyes, ears, muzzle
Step 4: Light Application Only a light application is required. Excessive product provides no additional benefit and wastes material.
Step 5: Brush Out for Shine After application, brush coat thoroughly in the direction of hair growth. This distributes product evenly and brings out a brilliant sheen.
Method 2: Spray Application (Quick Coverage)
For Horses:
- Apply as fine mist spray to flanks, face, legs, topline, and other fly congregation areas
- Hold bottle 6-12 inches from coat
- Spray lightly - do NOT wet horse's skin
- Maximum application: 2 ounces per horse per treatment
- After spraying, brush out thoroughly to achieve shine
- Repeat as needed - can be used daily, but typically lasts 14 days for pastured horses
For Dogs:
- Cover dog's eyes with hand
- Do NOT spray directly on mouth, nose, or eyes
- Spray head, ears, and chest until damp
- Rub into face with fingertips around mouth, nose, eyes
- Spray from neck to tail, finishing with legs
- For heavy coats, spray against natural lay of hair for better penetration
- Make sure spray thoroughly wets any ticks present
- Avoid contact with genitalia
- Maximum application: 9 fluid ounces per dog
- Repeat treatment if necessary in 14 days
Method 3: Premise Spray (Barns, Stables, Kennels)
Indoor Applications: Use in horse barns, cattle barns, milk houses, poultry houses, swine quarters, kennels, outbuildings, pens, shelters, and homes.
Application Technique:
- Spray thoroughly where insects congregate
- Direct spray into hiding places, cracks, crevices
- Treat along baseboards and around door/window frames
- Apply as spot treatment to floors in homes
- Spray to contact as many exposed insects as possible
- Do NOT use more than once per day
Ideal for Pastured Horses:
Why Turnout Horses Need Special Protection: Pastured horses face unique challenges:
- 24/7 Fly Exposure: Cannot escape to barn during peak fly hours
- Weather Exposure: Rain, dew, and humidity wash away standard sprays
- Heavy Sweating: Exercise and heat cause products to run off
- Limited Handling: Cannot be sprayed daily like stabled horses
Turn Out's Solution: The weatherproof binding technology maintains protection through all conditions pastured horses encounter. Apply once every 14 days and horses stay protected without daily handling.
Application Frequency:
Standard Schedule: Apply every 14 days for pastured horses under normal conditions. The weatherproof formula maintains effectiveness for the full two-week period.
Flexible Use: While designed for 14-day protection, Turn Out may be applied daily if needed during heavy infestation periods or for horses with sensitivity to fly bites.
Reapply After:
- Bathing or shampooing
- Exposure to exceptionally heavy rain
- Any time protection appears diminished
West Nile Virus Protection: Mosquitoes transmit West Nile Virus - a serious neurological disease affecting horses and humans. Turn Out's weatherproof formula controls mosquitoes for 14 days, providing critical protection throughout mosquito season without requiring daily reapplication.
Coat Conditioning Benefits: Unlike many long-lasting fly sprays that leave coats dull or sticky, Turn Out's water-based formula conditions hair while protecting. When brushed after application, treated coats display a bright, healthy sheen - important for horses that remain visible in pasture settings.
